We Made It!!!!!
Through the hard work and perseverance of a certain club member and the help of a few others, UVic Scuba successfully went international this reading break. We took 8 divers from the cold and rainy Victoria for a week of sun, fun, and adventure to Oahu, Hawai'i.
We participated in boat charters to sites like the Turtle Cave, Coral Gardens, the Soldier Carrier and other great sites. The sun was shining on us when we were lucky enough to see and hear humpback whales, and dolphins from the surface, as well as spotted eagle rays, sea turtles, a reef shark, and fish and nudibranchs galore!
Divers did a volunteer assessment of Kailua Bay with help from Kai Makana, Trees to Seas, and Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks. In doing so, we assisted in the beginning of a possible algae (limu) restoration project for a beautiful, popular beach for both the locals and tourists.
Our shore dives included places like Hanauma Bay, Electric Point, and Kailua Bay with so many diverse organisms... it was fantastic!
An enormous shout out goes to Kieran Cox for everything he did to make this trip a reality for the club.
Stay tuned for our next exciting scuba diving adventure!!!
